The Heelside Mobe was the first mobe trick wakeboarders were doing, yet you don't see
too many pros doing it in competitions anymore because it's tough to get consistent. It definitely
earns the respect of others if you're throwing down heelside mobes.
Prerequisties
Before trying the Heelside Mobe you should be able to do the following things:
1. Roll to reverts with a short cut and good height
2. Heelside 360s
3. Strong handle passing skill
Performing the trick
Watch this trick as an animated image
(318k) or
as an AVI movie (440k).
Start your edge about 8-10 feet from the wake. Pretend you are doing your regular roll to revert, but you're
taking a short cut at it because you just want to go wake to wake.
Look how the rider in this photo is standing super tall as he pops from the wake with the rope in tight. If you don't
look like this on your takeoff, you're going to be in trouble.
Start the rotation just like your roll to revert, look over your shoulder and pull the handle
to your back hip, but keep your eyes on the water so you know when to initiate the spin and handle pass.
As you spot the water and begin to descend, pull the handle into your back to make the handle pass just
like you do on your heelside 360. Keep the rope in tight throught the flip, or you won't be able to pass the handle.
Finish passing the handle and get your head up and knees bent for the landing. A common problem is underrotating or
overrotating. So keep your eyes on the water and be prepared to land!
Style additions
1. Learn it switch
2. If you're a serious rider and have your Heelside Mobe mastered you can try to throw
in a melan or mute grab. This is done easier off the double-up.
