I just went from an 03 143 byerly dna to the 14x 04 parks dna (03 was delaminating and HL replaced it for me.. Thanks HL! cant beat HL service!)
My first ride I really didnt like the parks too much and thought I had made a big mistake.. when I was standing flat (centered .. off edge) the parks was way loose and I actually had it slide out from under me. the loose feel off edge is waayy different the byerly which always felt locked. It took a little getting used to but once I knew how it was going to react my outlook immediatly changed.. spins became almost instantanious & effortless.
The parks imo is way faster then the 03 byerly.. when you put it on edge it bites down, locks in then hauls ass but handles the chop well.. like the byerly.
Everything I've ever read about the parks said it was way less predictable up the wake.. I actually find it way more predictable then my byerly and even my 03 belmont.. am happy to say it lands even softer then the byerly... something I'd never thought I'd see. I used to land very centered - flat (neutral) on my byerly.. first couple of times I landed flat on the parks I had the board slide out from under me. Laning with the parks I add a little bit of edge to keep it from slipping.
I've been out 5 times on my new parks and since I've started riding it, every thing I was struggling with has become a mystery.. why was that so hard?.. and now I'm starting to finally progress.
seems like everyone says the parks isnt a beginner board.. its too advanced.. you can't ride it to its potential.. pfft.. most people cant ride an old fluid to its full potential.. and a real pro can throw down awesome on a wal-mart board with good bindings.. but good gear will not slow down your progression & crappy gear will.
I put two friends on the parks who have old school gear and they immediatly added 3 ft of air to their jumps and were landing things they couldnt pull off on their own boards .. now I have to share the board
